Jeff and Eric where nice enough to invite me along with them for a quick after work fishing trip today and with the wind next to calm and temps in the 70’s who could say no? The crappie have been biting really well on minnows in the brush off the points in a post spawn pattern that makes the really easy to find and stay on. Plan today was to fish for crappie till the last hour of light and then try and find the late evening white bass bite.
We started out working brush in 11 ft of water by dropping minnows down into the pile and slowing moving it around some. In Adam and Eric previous trip (see post before this one) the bite and size had been one of their better trips to Hillsdale. Today the wind was next to nothing and the bite was much slower but more than enough for us to enjoy.
Eric started us off almost right away with a nice 12 inch crappie/22 inch walleye double.
He quickly followed up with this 13 in dark male crappie. I have a feeling that the crappie where still spawning some in deeper water since that lakes are so clear this year.
After a solid crappie bite that put 31 keepers in the boat we finish off by trolling shallow running crank baits in 10 ft of water off the main point at Hillsdale and caught 40+ nice white bass.
