The last few days the ice has finally come off most of the lakes in the area and I was able to sneak out for a quick afternoon trip in between meetings at work. The Crappie bite is still good it’s just changed enough that I think people are struggling to figure it out some. For the most part, the fish has left the brush and are starting to change it up a bit causing a lot of people to struggle. The truth it the fish are still in the same area they have been at Clinton (where I was Monday) and most lakes they have just settle off the brush to the bottom just off the brush. We are finding our fish in 24 to 26 ft of water right on the edge of the break just stuck to the bottom. You can pick a few out of the brush but working the bottom and sticking you jig in the mud is the best way to catch good fish. Yesterday produced about 50 crappie in 3 hours, orange and chartreuse was the color of choice. Kept 10 nice ones for the skillet.
