With all the rain we have had over the last few weeks it’s really thrown the crappie fishing into a game of hide and go seek. As soon as they get into a pattern of some type mother nature goes and raises the lake four foot on us. The owner of http://flinthillscustomtackle.weebly.com/index.html Joseph Bragg and I have been trying to get out and fish together but just have not been able to make it happen. Finally our schedules alined but where to go with all this high water? Joe asked about Banner Creek by Holton KS, I had never been there so of course I was game for it. Hoping that the smaller lake had not been as badly affected as the larger lakes by all the recent rain we decided to dodge the rain drops and meet about 9 at the lake.
It didn’t take long for us to figure out what a little gem of a lake Banner Creek is. We quickly tied on some of Joe new batch of jigs and started pitching into the shallows. As expected the crappie where just off of the edge of the new weed line out in open water. Banner is known for it’s nice population of black crappie and big walleye. We found both today as we tossed jigs.
Over the next few hours we caught a good number of both black and white crappie, big blue gill, as well as half a dozen walleye, cat fish and largemouth bass. Joe’s jigs shined as about everything that swims in Banner fell to our colorful bounty.
I think Joe and I will both be back as soon as we can.
